James “Jim” Johnson was born September 6, 1953, in Enid, OK to Freddie and Bonnie Johnson. He went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2018 at his home in Enid, at the age of 64.
Jim was a proud Garber High School graduate, class of 1972, later to continue his education at Oklahoma State University. He graduated from OSU in 1976 with an animal science degree. He decided that the sister of his lifelong friends, Kim & Jay Sallinger, was the girl for him! Karla and Jim wed in 1983. They moved back to Enid and began their life together. Jim ran his own oil and gas meter reading business. However, it is safe to say his two biggest accomplishments in life were his children—Jarrod and Kelsey. If you spoke to Jim at all, that was apparent. In his free time, Jim was either spending time with his family—his pride and joy—or solving the world’s problems with his closest comrades at the Garber Co-op, with his sidekick Foster by his side. His compassion, sense of humor, loyalty and patience were all traits that Jim was best known for.
Jim leaves behind a wake of family and friends who will miss his gentle spirit, his giving heart and his contagious laugh. He is survived by his loving and committed wife of 34 years, Karla. Children, Jarrod and wife Megann Johnson of Enid, and Kelsey Johnson of Dallas. Grandchildren, Charlie & Jack Johnson. Mother, Bonnie Johnson of Enid. Brother Fred and his wife Sheila of Earth, TX. Brother-in-law Kim and his wife Sophie Sallinger of Fort Worth and brother-in-law Jay and his wife Janie Sallinger of Tulsa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his father, Freddie Johnson and his sister, Carol Larison.
His memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 502 W Maine St, Enid, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial gifts be made to: Oklahoma FFA Foundation, Jim Johnson Trust, PO Box 33090, Tulsa, OK 74153 or Loaves and Fishes of Northwest Oklahoma, 701 E Maine St, Enid, OK 73701.
