Benjamin Lloyd Ahlers, age 63, of Perry, Oklahoma passed away September 26, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop David Austin officiating. Ben Ahlers will be laid to rest at Grace Hill Cemetery.
Ben was born the son of William and Joyce (Sutter) Ahlers on October 28, 1951 in Eugene, Oregon. As a teenager Ben was interested in the military and after graduating from high school in California he joined the United States Navy where he served aboard a submarine. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Ben worked several jobs including working for a gun smith, at a lumberyard, and eventually at The Charles Machine Works where he worked for fifteen years. Ben was also interested in furthering his education and expanding his skill set. For several years he took night classes at Northern Oklahoma College.
Ben had many interests in life such as his motorcycle, black powder rifles, and tinkering/building things; however his greatest interest in life was working to positively impact youth. As a result of Ben's dedication to both his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and its Boy Scout program, he significantly impacted the lives of several youth. Ben was very influential in assisting several young men achieve their Eagle rank, which is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
Ben was known by his friends for his great sense of humor, kindness, and willingness to help and serve others. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Rebholtz and is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Ahlers III.
