Alfred Wise

December 26, 1933 — October 30, 2025

Alfred Kibler Wise, a shining beacon of kindness and joy, departed this world on October 30, 2025, in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 91. Born on December 26, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, Alfred lived a life marked by love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for both family and nature.

Alfred was a proud graduate of the Manistee Michigan high school class of 1951, further honing his intellect and skills at the University of Michigan, where he earned a degree in wood technology engineering. His spirit was ever intertwined with “Go Blue!”, a phrase that would echo in many hearts, especially as he thrived in his endeavors at Harbor Industries, Oliver Machinery and as a small business owner of Wise's Casual Living and Wise's Patio Shop, he touched countless lives, establishing a legacy not just of business, but of integrity and warmth.

Alfred's military service in the U.S. Army laid the foundation for a character steeped in resilience and commitment. It was during these formative years that he cultivated not only the discipline for which he would be known, but also a sense of adventure that never waned. He cherished the serene moments spent fly fishing and sailing, the invigorating experiences of grouse hunting, and the camaraderie on the golf course. Such passions revealed a man deeply connected with the great outdoors, whose heart beat in time with the rhythms of nature.

Above all, Alfred was a devoted husband and father, proudest of his beautiful family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laverne Wise, who stood by him through the ups and downs of life in Michigan. They forged a partnership rich with love and support, a testament to what it means to share life’s journey.

Alfred’s legacy lives on in his three sons: John Wise and his wife, Annabel, Bart Wise and his wife, Tricia, and Bruce Wise and his wife, Teresa. Each of them carries a part of his spirit, instilled with the values of kindness and openness that he imparted so generously. The roots of his family tree have blossomed beautifully, with grandchildren Bill Wise, Justice Wise, Jessica Wise, Julianna Duncan and her husband, Reggie, Judah Wise, Ella Wise, and Ivy Strawn, who adored their grandfather and fondly remember his stories and laughter. His great-grandchildren, Bryson, Kali, Titis, and Mateo, were fortunate to have felt his warmth and will continue to tell his stories for generations to come.

Alfred was also enriched by the love of siblings Tom Wise and his wife, Peggy, Joan Archer and her husband, Dean, Judy Butzbaugh, as well as sister-in-law Wanda Brewster. He treasured being an uncle to his nieces and nephews: Tammy, Ken, Kathy, Karen, Dan, T.D., Bud, Josh, Terry, Jeff, and Pam.

He leaves behind cherished friends, such as Jim Franklin, Pete Armstrong, Bruce Kime, and Ted Parker, who shared laughter and memories of life’s many adventures alongside him. In contrast, we remember those who preceded him, including his parents, Charles Edger Wise and Beatrice Elizabeth Kibler Wise; his brother, Chuck Wise; his nephew, Brian Wise; his brother-in-law, Eldon Butzbaugh; sister and brother-in-law Bill and Anna Schumacher; sister and brother-in-law Tom and Marilyn Schumacher;—each of whom lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Alfred Kibler Wise’s life was a tapestry woven with the threads of loyalty, love, and adventure. As we reflect on a life so richly lived, we celebrate the man whose kindness touched so many and whose spirit will forever dance along the waters of life he so loved.
