Betty Binyon Lewis, 79, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, was the daughter of GW and Rose Evelyn Shelton Binyon. She was born on March 4, 1933, in Huntington Park, California, and died Friday, December 21, 2012, at her home. Betty was a 1951 graduate of Blanchard High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1957. She was President of Womens Athletic Association and played varsity softball and field hockey. She began her teaching career in 1957 with Vinita Public Schools. Her teaching career at Blanchard Public Schools began in 1958 retiring in 1995 after thirtyseven years of service. She coached basketball, softball, and volleyball as well as teaching many birds in speech, drama, journalism, democracy, science, English, social studies, language arts, and economics. Betty has been named Blanchard PTA Junior High Teacher of the Year in 1970 and Blanchard High School Teacher of the Year 19711972. She was an integral part of the formation of the Blanchard Association of Classroom Teachers. She served on the board at Oklahoma State University Womens Athletic Association as President and participated in many other civic endeavors. Betty was inducted into the Blanchard Public School Education Foundation Hall of Fame on August 13, 2008. She was honored by the dedication of the Betty Binyon Lewis Alumni Center building on October 23, 2012. Her love for Blanchard is most evident in the many, many hours she has devoted to the Alumni Association. Betty has been at the forefront of that organization since its inception. Betty was a member of the Blanchard Alumni Association serving as the Executive Secretary for over twentyfive years, Oklahoma State University Alumni Association, Posse Club, and the O Club. She served as President of Gamma Phi Beta Moms Club from 19831984. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over fifty years. She served on the Blanchard Cemetery Board for sixteen years and on the Blanchard Planning Commission for six years. The Binyon family was the founding family of the Festival of Light in Chickasha, Oklahoma, in 1993. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Blanchard, Oklahoma. Rev. Ray Sims will officiate. Interment will be at Blanchard Cemetery. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home, Perry, Oklahoma, and assisted by Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions can be made to the Blanchard Alumni Association in care of BrownDugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077 Betty is survived by G Pruitt Lewis of the home one daughter, Lizabeth Jane Lewis Armstrong and her husband, Maurice of Blanchard, Oklahoma one grandson, Alden Lewis Armstrong of Blanchard, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, GW and Evelyn Binyon one sister, Patricia Ruth Pat Dugger one brother, George Edgar Eddie Binyon.
