Carlus “Leymoin” Scroggins, a devoted family man, left this world peacefully at home on February 9th, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 6, 1945, in Ada, Oklahoma, Leymoin lived a life rich with kindness and unconditional love that left an unforgettable impact on those who were fortunate to know him.
Leymoin attended Fitzhugh Public Schools from elementary until the school’s closing at the end of his 10th grade year. He then attended Latta Public Schools for his junior year, and finished his high school career at Byng, where he was a proud member of the Byng High School Class of 1963. Throughout his high school career, Leymoin was actively involved in his school’s basketball and baseball teams, and FFA. After graduation, he attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma for a short time before joining the National Guard, in which he served for over 5 years and was given the prestigious honor of Soldier of the Year in 1967.
For over 30 years, he worked diligently as an Account Manager and Retail Supervisor for Jim McMannis & Associates Food Brokerage in Oklahoma City. Later in his career, he served 12 years as the Regional Oklahoma Sales Manager for Sunshine Mills until his retirement in 2011. His work ethic and friendly personality made him known and welcomed throughout the service goods industry, by all those who knew him. However, Leymoin’s essence extended far beyond his professional accomplishments.
An avid outdoorsman, Leymoin enjoyed each moment spent outdoors - from a young age with his father and brothers and throughout adulthood. His spirit for the great outdoors was beautifully intertwined with family, as he often reminisced about the times spent hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, filling those moments with laughter and love. Even on his final hunt in the spring of 2025 - he was surrounded by his sons, daughter, and grandsons on a turkey hunt, a moment that his family will remember and cherish until the end of time. Leymoin’s love for the outdoors was well known - he cared greatly for his yard, loved planting flowers, and spent many days looking out at the beautiful view from his back porch.
Leymoin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his purpose in life. His family frequently gathered, for no particular reason, to play dominoes, laugh together, and enjoy more food than they could possibly eat. Leymoin particularly enjoyed the desserts in which he always had to “have just a bite” of each one that was made. When asked how it was - his response was always the same: “it’s pretty musty” which meant he MUST have some more. He was also a sports enthusiast. He loved to travel to his grandchildren’s basketball games in which he could always be heard cheering as soon as the ball was shot, because he knew when it was going in. In his later years, he enjoyed watching OU Softball and the OKC Thunder.
Above all else, Leymoin had a devout love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved his church family and serving in the church. On November 2nd, 1975, Leymoin was ordained as a Deacon at Ranch Acres Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He continued to serve in this capacity for over 50 years at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Tuttle, Oklahoma and then the First Baptist Church of Mulhall, Oklahoma. His love for our Lord was the center of his life, the very foundation for which he lived his life and raised his family.
On June 6, 1964, Leymoin married the love of his life, Laquita Janette Coffey, at the Morris Memorial Baptist Church near Latta, Oklahoma. Their bond was a cornerstone of his life, filled with affection, respect, and unconditional love for over 61 years. Together they raised a beautiful family, including their daughter Theresa Weir and her husband John of Orlando, and their sons: Steve Scroggins of Orlando, and Mark Scroggins and his wife Lisa of Orlando. His grandchildren—Luke Weir and his wife Stacey, Ashley Sears and her husband Michael, Danielle Dunagan and her husband Tyler, Bryce Scroggins and his wife Leah, Destiny Jeffries and her husband Will, Colten Scroggins, and Chesney Scroggins. As well as nine great-grandchildren, Tatum Weir, Tayla Weir, Torrance Weir, Reagan Sears, Ridge Sears, Levi Dunagan, Jadyn Arms, Ady Arms, and Kimber Jeffries, and one great-great-grandson, Reign Schlup - all whom brought him immense joy. His brothers Earl Scroggins and his wife Sandy, Robert Scroggins and his wife Susan, and Tim Scroggins and his wife Pam, as well as a host of nieces and nephews will miss him dearly. Each family member was a bright star in his life, amplifying his legacy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlus Denver Scroggins and Bessie Ann Frederick; and grandson Dustin Packard. Their absence is felt deeply, however we know they are now rejoined and rejoicing together in Heaven.
Leymoin Scroggins will be remembered not only as a servant of God and loving family member but also for his playful spirit that resonated throughout his life - as shown by his laugh and smile.
