Cora Sue Corky Mayes, 72, of Edmond, Oklahoma, formerly of Perry, Oklahoma was the daughter of George and Helen LaRue Vannostran Chitwood. She was born November 9, 1939 in Cushing, Oklahoma and died Friday, November 2, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Corky married her best friend and sweetheart, Byron Lee Mayes on January 3, 1960 in Perry, Oklahoma at the First Baptist Church. She was an administrative assistant for the President CEO of OPUBCO for ten years. Corky also worked for the First National Bank of Perry off and on for over 20 years. She worked as a legal assistant in Oklahoma City for about 7 years. Corky loved to work and enjoyed the diversity of each of her different jobs. Her favorite hobby was reading, but more than getting lost in a good book she loved spending time with her grandchildren, friends, and family. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Corky was also involved in the Gideons Auxiliary. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at BrownDugger Funeral Home Chapel in Perry, Oklahoma. Rev. Paul Blair will officiate. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at BrownDugger Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Gideons or Fairview Baptist Church in care of BrownDugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Corky is survived by her husband Byron of the home two daughters, Pamela Sue Zumwalt and her fianceacute Mike Haggerty of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dina Anderson and her husband, Scott of Owasso, Oklahoma three grandchildren, Zachary Zumwalt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Kaylen Anderson and Kristen Anderson both of Owasso, Oklahoma two greatgrandchildren, Devon Zumwalt and Bailey Zumwalt both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Chitwood one sister, Judie Chitwood.
