She returned to nursing fulltime in 1970, working as the Director of Nursing at the Garber Nursing Home for seven years. Later, she worked as a nurse in the hospital unit of the Enid State School for 12 years until her retirement. Dorotha was very active in the Garber United Methodist Church as a member of the choir, United Methodist Women, and administrative board. She taught Sunday school and was instrumental in organizing the Sonshine Kids Mothers Day Out program.
