Elizabeth Underwood

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Underwood went to be with her Lord and Savior July 4, 2017 in Perry, OK. She was 78.

She was born Elizabeth Ann Howell on August 15, 1938 to Huie and Edna Howell in Atlanta, KS. Her father worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and they moved with his job while she was growing up. She attended school at Sumner Schools in Sumner, OK, and received her diploma in CA.

Betty married the love of her life, Thomas Lee Underwood March 24, 1956 at Sumner Baptist Church in Sumner, OK. She greatly enjoyed being a preacher's wife and a mother. She was a nurse's aide at Cushing Nursing Home for several years and caregiver to her mother, mother in law, brothers and her husband. Betty was a member of the Sumner Baptist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Glencoe, and the Oklahoma Homemakers Club. She was a faithful wife, mother and friend. Betty enjoyed singing, wild bird feeding, and traveling with her nieces on their fabulous adventures. She also enjoyed making people laugh and spending time with her children and their families.

She is survived by her 3 children: Rachel Freeby of Perry OK, Thomas Underwood of Perkins, OK and Rebecca Wilson and her husband Monty of Welch, OK., along with 7 granddaughters; Erica Matthiesen and husband Pete of Perry, OK; Erin Freeby of Abinginton, PA; Cameron Lucio and husband Luis of Cushing, OK; Cindy Wilson of Owasso, OK; Lauren Cole and husband Timothy of Stillwater, OK; Cathy Wilson of Owasso, OK; and Meagen Stewart and husband Joe of Oklahoma City, OK. She has two nieces Jeanne Quick and husband Albert of Sumner and Alice Quick of Morrison and 18 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, brothers and her husband.

Betty will be greatly missed. She will be buried at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Sumner, OK. A memorial service will be held at Sumner Baptist Church at 10:00 AM on July 6, 2017. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, Perry OK. The family requests donations in her name to Sumner Baptist Church where Betty attended most of her life.
