Glen Hyatt

October 6, 1940 — February 27, 2015

Glen W. Hyatt, 74, of Perry passed from this life on Feb 27, 2015. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Wed. March 4, 2015 at Grace Hill Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Tues, March 3rd from 12pm to 8pm with the family greeting friends at the funeral home from 6pm to 8pm on Tues evening.

Glen was born on Oct 6, 1940 in Prague, OK to Floyd Hyatt and Mandy Estep. He was raised and attended school in the Edmond area. Following high school, Glen enlisted in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the Edmond area where he married Iva Brady in 1971. Glen worked for service stations in the metro area and he and Iva had two daughters, Janelle and Angela.

In 1974 the family relocated to Perry, OK and Glen went to work at Perry Iron. He worked at several service stations in Perry before accepting a position at Oklahoma Dept of Transportation, where he worked for 5 years. After leaving ODOT he worked and retired from H.E.W. Waste and Recycling, health issues forced Glen into an early retirement in 1995.

When he was not working, Glen could usually be found at the local casino. He also enjoyed metal detecting, fishing, camping, collecting antiques, and working on cars. Glen loved to be outdoors and could spend hours in his garden raising his prized tomatoes and sitting under the shade tree telling stories. He was a proud Sooner fan and he had a fascination with frogs, so much so that he would also answer the phone with a loud "Ribbit!"

Glen Hyatt was a stubborn man with a crazy sense of humor. He loved to sing to his kids and grandkids, although his voice was not quite as wonderful as Glen may have thought it was. Glen was always smiling and enjoyed making others smile too. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his friends and family. He was a ornery guy who loved life and he will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: James Hyatt, Troy Hyatt, Carl Hyatt, Marie Barber, and Pearl Turner.

Glen is survived by his wife and best friend Iva Hyatt of Perry. Two daughters: Angela Elkins and husband Eddie of Glencoe, OK and Janelle Eppler and husband Dean of Stillwater, OK. Four grandchildren: Michael and Travis Dunn and Autumn and Cheyene Elkins. He is also survived by three sisters: Pauline Burdick, Wanda Williams, and Evelyn Thornbrue, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
