Jackie Sue Sheperd, 71, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, was born on July 3, 1939 in Bradley, Oklahoma to Elmer Amos and Esta Faye Beene Stephenson. She passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Grace Living Center, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She graduated from Bradley High School in 1957. She then attended nursing school and became a nurse in 1960. In 1984 she attended the Gerontology Conference at Clare College in Cambridge, England. In 1986 she received her certification in Gerontology with the American Nurses Association. In 1988 she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas. In 1991, she was certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support. Jackie worked at the Oklahoma General Hospital, as a labor and delivery nurse, in Clinton, Oklahoma. In, 1961 she worked as a shift supervisor, charge nurse, medical surgery, OB and ER nurse at the Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She also worked for General Dynamics and Astronautics, at the Altus Air Force Base as an industrial nurse, manned first aid station, checked silos and worked with the safety engineer. From 1961 to 1963 she worked at the Fall Brook Hospital, in Fall Brook, California, as an OB, labor and delivery, nursery, and medical surgery nurse. During this time she also spent her weekends working for the Powell and Loomis Doctors Clinic. From 19631966, she returned to Oklahoma and worked as a nursery, labor and delivery nurse for the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. In 1966 she went to work for the Elkview General Hospital, in Hobart, Oklahoma, as an ER, labor and delivery, medical surgery nurse, as well as a CPR instructor. Starting in 1974 she went to work part time at the Buchanan Nursing Home, in Hobart, Oklahoma. In 1978, she relocated to Stillwater, Oklahoma where she went to work at the Stillwater Medical Center as a staff nurse, head nurse, charge nurse, she assisted patients with discharge and presurgery. She retired in 1997. Starting in 2005, she worked for the Westhaven Nursing Home, in Stillwater, Oklahoma and Resthaven Nursing Home in Cushing, Oklahoma as a weekend nurse, where she assisted the residents with their housing, treatments, medications and lab collections. She was a member of the Red Cross Disaster Nurse, ONA, ANA, AORN, Oncology, and the California Registration for Registered Nurses. Jackie was involved in the Domestic Violence Board, Community Health Center, a member of the Bolivia Health Team, an original member of the Judith Karmen Hospice, past member of the Professional Advisory Committee for Payne County Health Department, Payne County Health Committee, Professional Advisory Group Board for Home Call Home Health. On June 16, 1961, she married Jim C. Walker at the First United Methodist Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma. On May 12, 1978, she married J.W. Sheperd in Vernon, Texas. Jackie enjoyed golf, genealogy, watching Cowgirl basketball, hanging out and shopping with her grandchildren, sewing, camping, hunting, fishing and flying. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Eagle Heights Baptist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Pastor Brent Prentice will officiate, assisted by Pastor B. Gordon Edwards. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home, Perry, Oklahoma. Sheperd one son, Steven Walker and Samantha of Hobart, Oklahoma two daughters, Kamera Charles and her husband, John, of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Paula Nagode and her husband, Tim, of Blanchard, Oklahoma eight grandchildren, Ashton Shelton and her husband, Chris, of Overland Park, Kansas, Morgan Charles of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Shantel Walker and her husband, Anthony Norris, Steele Walker and his wife, Brittney, Seth Walker, Savanna Walker, all of Hobart, Oklahoma, Dylan Nagode and his wife, Becky, of Blanchard, Oklahoma and Jackson Nagode of Edmond, Oklahoma three great grandchildren, Anthony Norris, Jr. and Addison Walker, both of Hobart, Oklahoma, Frances Nagode, of Blanchard, Oklahoma one brother, Billy Cylde Stephenson, and his wife, Mary, of Alex, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
