Joseph Maurice “Doc” Day left his earthly home to join his loved ones in heaven on January 17, 2022. Though he will be greatly missed by his countless friends and family, he leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Doc was born on January 14, 1952, to Dwight and Ida Mae (Clark) Day. He graduated from Mulhall-Orlando High School in the spring of 1970. On January 6, 1973, he married the love of his life, Kathy Ward of Red Rock. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary together only a few days ago. Doc graduated from the Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 after doing his undergraduate work at Oklahoma State University. He practiced Veterinary medicine in Chickasha before moving to Medford and eventually settling back in Perry in 1979.
Doc worked harder than anyone, and he could always be found outside working on some project from farming to building just about anything his family could dream up for him to make. In addition to working hard, he enjoyed many hobbies. His favorites included hunting and team roping, and he looked forward to hosting Doc’s Ropin’ each year for the past 35 years. He enjoyed these activities most because they allowed him to spend time with his family and friends.
Doc answered to many names but his favorite would have to be Grandpa. It didn’t matter if it was a gym, ball field, rodeo arena, or livestock show, you could always count on Grandpa being there cheering on the grandkids. More recently Grandpa looked forward to seeing his great grandkids every day and watching them grow.
In addition to always being willing to help friends and family, Doc also served his community as a member of the Mulhall-Orlando Board of Education, The Noble County Cattlemen’s Association, The Mulhall-Orlando Livestock Booster Club and the Central Oklahoma Junior Rodeo Association. If there was a way to support the local youth through education, athletics, rodeo, or livestock events, you could count on Doc to be there.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Day, sister Raylene Smith, grandparents Frank and Evelyn Day as well as grandparents Ray and Loyce Clark.
He is survived by his wife Kathy of the home, son Justin Day and wife Jeri, son Jeff Day and wife Crystal, brother David Day and wife Marla, sister-in-law Maxine Day , brother-in-law Delmar Smith, Aunt Kathy, Aunt Julie, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and his true pride and joy, his grandchildren: Trenton Day and wife Shana, Paden Day and girlfriend Cadlyn, Paige “Lizzie” Day, and Kaylee Mae Day, great grandchildren: Kohen and Wrenlee, and honorary grandson Hadley Bryan.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday 1/22/22 at the Mulhall-Orlando School Gymnasium located in Mulhall. The minister Joseph M. Day will officiate. Honorary Casket bearers for the service will include Brad Thrash, John “Mad Dog” Jerome, Jason McNabb, Dennis Brorsen, Mike Skouby and Bob Harris, and so many more. Too many to list… Memorial Donations can be made in his name to the Central Okahoma Junior Rodeo Association, 405 n 32nd street, Perry, OK 73077
