Laveta Ross

January 20, 1924 — June 11, 2012

LaVeta Arlene Woolley Ross, was born in Sontag, Mississippi on January 20, 1924 to Clement Ellsworth and Mary Lea Cupstid Woolley. Her mother went to Mississippi to be near family and doctors, in case it was a difficulty birth. At three months of age, LaVeta was brought back by train, to Syracuse, Kansas where LaVetas daddy was waiting for them to take them home to the Woolley homestead five south, two and three fourths east of Walsh, Colorado. LaVeta was an only child. She departed life on June 11, 2012, at the age of 88 years, 4 months, 22 days, at Perry Memorial Hospital, after suffering a severe stroke. May 6, 1942 LaVeta married the love of her life, Milton Ross. He was not always the love of her life. After the loss of her father and the loss of Miltons mother, Miltons father and LaVetas mother met and eventually became a family. Mom said at first she thought Milton was a show off, but over the years the love grew. Both parents loved to confuse everyone with, my dad married her mom. Dont think that didnt raise a few eyebrows, and of course after us kids were in the picture, it was my dads dad married my moms mom. The family had many a good chuckle watching faces and wondering how long it would take for them to figure out that family dynamic. Except for the time LaVeta lived in Aurora, Colorado during Miltons time in the service and the time she spent living with Mike and Paula in Perry, Oklahoma she lived in Baca County. She would tell you Baca County, Colorado was her home and she loved the community and the people of Baca County. For her Baca County was the only place she ever wanted to be. In 1947 Milton and LaVeta adopted a son, William Lee, better known to everyone as Bill and in 1956 they adopted a daughter, Paula Sue. LaVeta was a very involved farm wife. She helped dad with the farm work and cooked for hired hands. She became involved in several womens clubs, helped Milton with 4H and served as church secretary and secretarytreasurer for the State Line Grange for many years. She helped serve countless dinners for farm sales and church functions. LaVeta spent very little time apart from her loving husband and was a doting mother to her children and a loving, caring grandmother. Her biggest pride was her children and grandchildren. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. MST, Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Stonington Cemetery, Stonington, Colorado. LaVeta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Milton. After her husbands death she continued to be very active in her church. She continued to read and crochet until her eye sight and health began to fail her in 2005. LaVeta leaves to mourn her passing, son, Bill Cinda of Garden City, KS daughter, Paula Mike Stephens of Perry, OK four grandchildren Chris Watkins of Syracuse, KS, Melissa Bryan Cook of Ponca City, OK, Jeff Watkins of Fowler, CO, Dana Dennis Francis of Nova Scotia, Canada nine grandchildren, Cody and Nicole Watkins of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica Watkins of Colton, CA, Blake Cook of Stillwater, OK, Josh and David Watkins of Fowler, CO, Hunter, Payton and Willa Francis of Nova Scotia, Canada and one great great granddaughter, Peyton Rae Watkins of Colorado Springs, CO.
