Leah Powers

September 23, 1974 — August 19, 2010

Leah Ann Powers passed from earthly life to Eternal Life on August 19, 2010 after a 14 month battle with leukemia. She was born September 23, 1974 in Perry OK to Jack and Linda Waltermire Powers. Educated in Ponca City, Leah graduated from Ponca City High School after a year in Germany as a foreign exchange student. A talented musician, Leah began her college education at Oklahoma University on a music performance scholarship. At OU, she was a member of the Big Red Marching Band and the Woodwind Ensemble. After her freshman year at OU, Leah was stricken with leukemia. Following chemotherapy, she attended NOC and finished her bachelors at OSU. She returned to OU for a masters degree in Anthropology. She then went to work for Health Systems of Oklahoma as the Social Services Director for the Ponca City Nursing Home. The leukemia returned in June of 2009. Positive and cheerful, Leah had a pure, genuine spirit and a smile that touched everyone. Outgoing, she made a friend of all she met. Giving and selfless, she put others before herself. She loved her family, her friends, her dog Rockie, reading, discussing political issues, and music. Besides going to concerts with her brother, she loved to make music and sing Karaoke. She played the piano, violin, clarinet, and guitar. Leah is survived by her parents, her brother Brett Powers and grandmother Dona Lee Powers.
