Robert H. Sanders of Perry, Oklahoma, passed away after a brief illness on July 18, 2015. He was 90 years old.
A life-long resident of Oklahoma, Mr. Sanders was born May 15, 1925, at Iron Post, Ottawa County, Oklahoma. He attended school in Fairland before joining the CCC (Civilian Conservative Corp), a public work relief program during the Great Depression, to support his widowed mother and 5 younger siblings. He served during WWII in the Army Air Corp as crew chief of the flight crew of a B-25 bomber in the Pacific Theatre and, after the war, in the occupation forces in Japan. Returning to civilian life, he married Mellie Blevins and went to work for BF Goodrich in Miami, Oklahoma, until his retirement. He and his wife sold the family farm, moved to Perry and traveled extensively.
He is survived by Mellie, of the home, his wife of 67 years, three daughters: Dr. Dee Ann Sanders of Green Bay, WI, Jana Thomason and Sara Grossman, both of Edmond, Oklahoma, three sons: Samuel Sanders of Warr Acres, Oklahoma, Terry Sanders of Edmond, and Robert O. Sanders of Perry, one sister, Clairnell Davis of Clinton, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren; 3 great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by daughter Lisa Heppner of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and two grandsons.
He will be remembered by family and friends in a private service. Interment will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Craig County, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Perry Memorial Hospital Foundation in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home 1010 N. 7th, Perry, OK 73077.
