Robert Stringer

Robert Bob Stringer, 84, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the son of Ray Newton and Vera Teague Stringer. He was born on January 13, 1928 in El Reno, Oklahoma and died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Green Valley Nursing Home, Perry, Oklahoma. On August 28, 1949 Bob married his sweetheart and best friend Velta Mae Allen at the First Christian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Bob graduated from Central State University in 1950. He worked for the Department of Transportation until 1993 when he retired as a Division Engineer. He worked for the state for a total of 50 years. He was a past Post Commander of the American Legion Post 111 in Edmond, Oklahoma, past President of the Perry Rotary and a former director of the Exchange Bank and Trust in Perry, Oklahoma. He was a Mason and a member of the Perry Historical Society. Bob served his country for over forty years and was honorably discharged from the Oklahoma National Guard after serving in the 45th Infantry Division, 179th Infantry Headquarters Company, 158th Field Artillery Company and completed a tour in the Korean War. Bob was an active member and served as an Elder of the First Christian Church in Perry, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012 at First Christian Church in Perry, Oklahoma. Rev. Martin Foster will officiate. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. at Kingfisher Cemetery in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at BrownDugger Funeral Home. Bob is survived by his wife, Velta of the home two sons, Wes Stringer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Larry Stringer of Owasso, Oklahoma three grandchildren, Regina Howell and her husband, Davy of Spring, Texas, Dana Stringer and Ethan Stringer both of Owasso, Oklahoma two great grandchildren, Allison Howell and Dalton Howell of Spring, Texas two great, great grandchildren, Stephani Howell and Cody Howell of Spring, Texas sisterinlaw, Virginia ONiel of Edmond, Oklahoma two nephews, Steve ONiel of Cascade, Colorado, Jay ONiel of Pueblo West, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karon Byford parents, Ray and Vera Stringer one sister, LaVahn Childers two brotherinlaws, Bill ONiel and Dave Childers.
