Roma Joyce Roberts of Orlando, Oklahoma left this world on March 27, 2020 at the age of 73.
Joyce was born in Crescent to Marcus Dodson and Lawanda (Winnie) Lucille Roten Dodson on July 28, 1946. She attended school at Crescent. She worked at the local hamburger joint, Dairy Sweet, while in high school. After Graduation she went to beauty school where she earned her cosmetology license. Joyce operated her beauty salon in Perry for over thirty years. She always had a small shop in her home as well. She also enjoyed doing hair at the nursing home. The couple also owned and operated Furniture Outlet in Perry for a few years.
It was at the 4th of July celebration in the park at Crescent that she met her future husband, Vernon Roberts. As soon as he saw her, his mind was made up. She was the one for him and him for her. They were married on June 25, 1966 in Orlando. They settled down to raise their family of four.
Joyce was quite the bargain hunter and could often be found garage saleing on weekends from 6 a.m. until all the treasures were found. She collected angel figurines. She loved cooking for her family and often hosted large gatherings on Sundays. Joyce was very talkative; she never met a stranger. She was a member of the 1st Assemble Church of Perry.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, infant son Allen Roberts, brother Donald Dodson, brother Marcus Dodson, Jr., brother Charles Dodson, and sister Carolyn Poindexter.
She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her son Tim Roberts and his wife Christie of Crescent, son Mike Roberts of Orlando, grandchildren: Haley Adams, Tanner Roberts, Makayla Adams, Hudson Roberts, T.J. Roberts, and Tinley Roberts, and sister Sheila Kohen and her husband Dennis or Orlando.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the Morris Heights Cemetery outside of Orlando, Oklahoma beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Brett Nation will officiate. Casket bearers for the service include Tanner Roberts, Hudson Roberts, T.J. Roberts, Micah Kolb, Chad Klingman, and Randy Kohen. Friends are welcome to stop by Brown-Dugger Funeral home to pay their respects on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
