Ruth Dugger

Ruth Dugger, 96, of Hammon, Oklahoma was the daughter of Charles Glenn and Ovilla Boude Lewis Cantrell. She was born October 25, 1915 in Hall County, Texas and died Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She met E. Brown Dugger a business owner of the 3D Grocery store in Shamrock, Texas and later the couple were married on May 29, 1938 in Sayre, Oklahoma. She lived most of her life in the Hammon and Elk City areas. Ruth was a graduate of Shamrock High School. Ruth and her husband were farmers and ranchers, and they along with her brotherinlaw and sisterinlaw, owned and operated Dugger Chevrolet in Hammon for 25 years and Dugger Implement Co. along with several other business ventures in western Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle. Ruth in her early years loved working on the farm and ranch with her husband and family. Her hobbies included reading, playing cards, dominos, painting, and traveling. She especially enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and many foreign countries. She enjoyed family cruises and traveling with her nieces to New York and Chicago. She was a member of the First Baptist Churches of Hammon and Elk City, Oklahoma where she taught Sunday school. Ruth was also a member of the Red Moon Culture Club, Arimathaea and Live Embers. Ruth will be remembered as a loving wife, aunt and sister by her family. And as a loving and generous friend by those people whose lives she touched. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Elk City. Rev. Danny Ringer will officiate. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home, Perry, Oklahoma, assisted by Martin Funeral Home, Elk City, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Martin Funeral Home, 600 W. Country Club, Elk City, Oklahoma 73644. Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Elk City or the Hammon High School Foundation in care of BrownDugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Ruth is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Brown Dugger four brothers, Charles George Cantrell, William Travis Cantrell Sr., Billy Roy Cantrell and Royce Bill Cantrell.
