Ruth Kathrine Phipps, fondly known as Katie, went to her heavenly home on November 8, 2024. Born on August 30, 1939, she was the cherished daughter of James William and Ruth Mary (Butler) Buntt. From her earliest days, Katie was a vibrant spirit with a nurturing soul and her legacy will forever be remembered by many.
Growing up, Katie attended Red Rock Schools. Throughout her years, she embraced various roles, dedicating herself to work as a bus driver for the local schools. She enjoyed different hobbies from crocheting to playing cards and was an impressive bowler playing on a team for many years. But, her greatest passion in life was always her family.
Katie married Byron Alonzo Phipps on June 27, 1959. This would mark the beginning of nearly 60 years together building a beautiful life and family that they both deeply cherished. With their union, Bryon and Katie welcomed two children, Deborah and Byron. She greatly enjoyed the years raising her children and being a devoted and true partner to Byron in running their family farm.
Time with her family is what Katie treasured most and she created an atmosphere of love and togetherness in her home. She enjoyed cooking an abundance of food and it was always known that if you walked through her door, you wouldn’t leave hungry. She was a tried and true fan of anything her grandchildren took part in. You could always find her in the stands at sporting events no matter how far of a drive, rain or shine. Win or lose, she would be there to greet them with a hug and words of encouragement. She would continue this supporting role into her later years, when she would become known simply as “G” by her great-grandchildren who she endlessly doted over. G’s little angels, as she would often referred to them, will forever remember the major impact that she made on their lives.
Katie leaves behind her son Byron DeWayne Phipps of Ponca City, daughter Deborah Jean Petty and her husband Tommy of Red Rock, grandson Justin Curtis Petty and his wife Sarah of Tuttle, grandson Jeremy Michael Petty and his wife Hailey of Perry, granddaughter Alicia Nicole Ingmire and her husband Tim of Marland, great grandchildren Daylen, Kolton, Connor, Elijah, Paris, Brayden, and Beau.
Katie's life was adorned by her steadfast relationships with her siblings: Ethel Robinson, Mary Hughes, and Jim Buntt, alongside his wife Ann. She was fortunate to have sisters-in-law Lois Williams and Pam Buntt as fellow pillars of family strength. As well as a joyous gathering of nieces, nephews, and friends filled her heart with laughter and her home with the spirit of togetherness.
In her passing, Katie reunites with the love her life, her beloved husband Byron. Along with her late sister Esther Weiland and her husband AJ, and her brother Everett Buntt—each a cherished piece of her past, waiting to greet her with open arms.
She will be greatly missed, fondly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who were graced by her presence.
