Mrs. Alma Jane Beavers has gone to heaven. She was 90 years young. Born on October 26, 1930 in Sedan, Kansas, the daughter of Dwyer C and Alma Louise (Darling) Hays. She attended elementary school in Sedan, KS until the family relocated to Garber. Jane graduated from Garber High School in the spring of 1948. She worked as a telephone operator at the Garber Phone Office in the 1950’s.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Garber almost her entire life. She served as Sunday school teacher and as leader of the UMW (United Methodist Women) at both the local and district level. Jane was a member of the choir and over her lifetime has served on many church boards. She lovingly gave her time to the lord through the church. Her presence was known, her guidance was her gift. In the last handful of years, Jane hasn’t been able to attend church due to health conditions. We know if she had it her way, she would have served the members of the UMC of Garber up until the end.
On November 21, 1951 Jane married longtime classmate & the love of her life, Gerald Beavers. They enjoyed 51 years of bliss until his death in May of 2003. She was an Air Force wife. She faithfully followed her husband around the world while he served our country. Over the span of 20 years they were stationed in Columbia, South Carolina, Austin, Texas, Enid, Oklahoma, Chandler, Arizona, Charleston, South Carolina and overseas to Okinawa, Japan, Manilla, Philippines before returning to Garber for Retirement in July of 1968. During this time, Jane worked for the United States Airforce where she served as an ambassador of the base assisting newly stationed families with their move.
Jane was very involved with the community serving on the Garfield County Election Board Jane worked as a clerk for Weight Watchers for over 15 years. She served as Social Activities Director for the Garber Nursing Home for quite a while. Her resume as a volunteer is very impressive and includes: City of Garber Council Member (swimming pool), Community Choirs Christmas and Easter Cantatas, Emmaus Walk Community, Garber Community Theater (Tickets), Garber High School Alumni Association (homecoming), Oklahoma Blood Institute Driver for Garber, RSVP volunteer, and the Wheat Heart Nutrition Project Garber Location (meal delivery).
Jane was a loving and devoted mother of three. Her first baby, Jeral Deane was born in 1957. Soon after that Jean Anne came along in 1959. Just a few years later Jeff was born in 1965. She always made sure the kids had everything they needed and was a strong support system for them. She comforted them when they were sad and helped shape their minds with her gentle ways. Through all of these projects, her husband, children, military life, church and community involvement, somehow, she still found time for books. She loved to read; she would read any book she could get her hands on.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dwyer and Alma Hays, husband Jerry Beavers, daughter Jeral Deane Boyer, twin sister Abbie Jean Meier and her husband Leroy Meier, brother Curtis Hays and brother-in-law Kenneth Parrack.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Jean Anne and her husband Louie Blough of Garber, Son Jeff Beavers of Garber. Grandchildren Tyler Bo Ketts and his wife Cherie of Garber, Corey Lee Blough and his wife Crystal of Rush Springs, and Lisa Rae and her husband Kris of Georgia.
